- Discover how the heartbreak of Violet Whaley led to her spirit haunting the oldest brick house in San Diego.
- Visit small, locally owned businesses and take home some
As the birthplace of California, Old Town San Diego has seen its fair share of history. And its fair share of love – both the kind that lasts a lifetime and the kind that ends badly. We’ll explore these stories and more as we enjoy Valentine’s Day weekend in the city’s oldest neighborhood.
We'll start our exploration at the Adobe Chapel which served both as a home and church in the 19th century. A love story in a 19th century novel set at this location literally saved the neighborhood. We’ll explore a variety of homes – both wood and adobe – and learn about the love lives of those who lived there, along with two houses of worship which have hosted weddings for over a century.
All this exploring and talk of love might leave you hungry, so we’ll stop by Nibble Chocolate for one of their decadent truffles and get a sample of some of their chocolate. You’ll also shop for an authentic handcrafted Mexican gift, and, to add a little spice to any relationship, choose from a collection of locally made hot sauces.
After passing by the most haunted house in San Diego, and a visit to the 2nd oldest cemetery in the city, we’ll top off our experience with a specialty tequila drink (you can upgrade to a flight of tequila) and three gourmet street tacos, plus chips and salsa. We’ll bid adios here, though you can linger over another drink if you wish. You will leave with souvenirs of your afternoon and happy – and delicious – memories of your day in Old Town San Diego.
