Whether you arrive by water, bridge or road, part of the charm and beauty of visiting Coronado is just getting there in the first place.
There are four options for getting to Coronado Island from San Diego: driving across the beautiful San Diego-Coronado Bridge, taking a ferry or water taxi across The Big Bay or driving across the seven-mile Silver Strand peninsula.
The Coronado Ferry, operated by Flagship Cruises, leaves from two locations in downtown San Diego: the Broadway Pier and the San Diego Convention Center. It travels to and from the Coronado Ferry Landing, just a few minutes across the bay. The Water Taxi offers on-call service to and from the Ferry Landing Marketplace, the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa and the Glorietta Bay Marina, located across from the Hotel del Coronado.
The San Diego-Coronado Bridge quickly became an area landmark after it opened on August 3, 1969. The distinctive curve and soaring sweep of the bridge was the first structural conquest of the Big Bay, linking the island of Coronado to the city of San Diego. Measuring 2.12 miles long and five lanes wide, the bridge has a clearance of approximately 200 feet, allowing the tallest ships to pass beneath it. The bridge also serves as the perfect gateway between Coronado and the popular neighboring attractions of San Diego.
Once on Coronado, many people enjoy biking throughout the neighborhoods as well as pedaling along Coronado’s bayside shore; a 16-mile bike path hugs the island. The path provides cyclists, inline skaters and walkers a scenic route to see the Port of San Diego, the Big Bay, San Diego's skyline and the park grounds of Coronado.
