San Diego's Sport Fishing Landings

San Diego is home to the world’s largest and most technologically advanced year-round sport fishing fleet. Trips range from a half day to longer 21 day trips.

San Diego is home to the world’s largest and most technologically advanced year-round Sportfishing fleet, and depending on the fishing season you can choose from trips as short as a half day to long range trips that last 21 days. San Diego has five sport boat landings that harbor more than 70 boats between them, offering a wide range of Sportfishing options and experiences.

If you’re a novice, you might want to consider one of the exciting half day trips that stay close to shore and will have you back on dry land before nightfall. All landings offer rental gear if needed and if your fishing license isn’t included in the fare, a license can be purchased at the landings - just make sure to ask if a license is required when purchasing your ticket(s). Bait is always included in your fare but you may want to purchase some hooks and other gear as needed. Each landing has their own tackle store and the professionals behind the counter will be glad to advise you on want you’ll need based on current conditions. Friendly deck hands on the boats are accustomed to helping beginners, especially on the half-day trips so don’t be shy, if you need help ask. Their number one goal is to make sure you to have an enjoyable time catching fish!

For the more experienced anglers, you’ll find the action and excitement of fishing the wide open Pacific Ocean intoxicating. Multi-day or long-range trips bring anglers further down south where migrating schools of Pelagic game fish can be found including: Yellowfin, Bluefin, Albacore, Yellowtail, Dorado and Wahoo. These larger back-breaking fish are sometimes so abundant they can be found circling under the boat, and when the bite is “wide open” fish have been known to attack shiny bare hooks with nothing on them. Needless to say these trips are extremely exciting!

You’ll find San Diego’s main sport boat landings are in San Diego Bay and Mission Bay. These are both excellent locations to base a trip from with easy access to San Diego’s main tourist attractions (if you’re traveling with family) and a variety of lodging options. Both locations are within a 5-minute drive from San Diego International Airport and a 10-minute drive from Downtown San Diego.

Below is a list of San Diego’s Sportfishing landings with information about the types of trips each offers. Each landing has their own website detailing trip options and departure dates but be advised some trips do sell out quickly, especially when the bite is on, so make your reservations early.
