Some people claim that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When it comes to the following restaurants, we couldn't agree more!

Sunday Brunch

Hotel del Coronado
Brunch in the Crown Room is truly a memorable experience. Each Sunday, the staff at the grande dame of San Diego luxury hotels turns out a buffet fit for all the numerous royalty, celebrities and presidents who have stayed at the historic hotel over the past 120 years. Brunch options range from caviar and crab legs, to made-to-order waffles and omelets, and from sushi and dim sum to smoked salmon and succulent prime rib.

Le Fontainebleau - The Westgate Hotel, Downtown San Diego
Each Sunday and on special occasions, Le Fontainebleau serves up an extensive buffet, including prime roasts, fresh seafood, made-to-order sushi, full beverage bar and accompaniment of a live pianist.

Flagship Cruises & Events, San Diego Bay
Hop aboard a luxury Flagship Cruises yacht for a brunch cruise around The Big Bay. Enjoy a gourmet buffet, complimentary champagne and mimosas as well as live music. Other Flagship cruises include one- and two-hour narrated harbor tours, dinner-dance cruises and seasonal whale watching adventures.

Hornblower Cruises & Events, San Diego Bay
Dine on a lavish buffet while sipping champagne and enjoying stunning views along San Diego Bay with a Sunday Champagne Brunch Cruise. Hornblower also offers three-hour nightly dinner-dance cruises, one- and two-hour narrated harbor tours daily and seasonal whale watching adventures.

Breakfast

Cafe Chloe, Downtown San Diego
Offering their brunch menu every day of the week, this lively bistro has a small but ever-changing, French-inspired menu with options like whole-wheat pancakes with sour-cherry sauce served alongside traditional French fare such as croque madame with french ham and gruyere.

Hob Nob Hill, Downtown San Diego
Open in San Diego, Ca. for over 50 years for good reason: this homey place is a return to the good ol' days when no one cared about cholesterol and calories didn't count. Cozy into a booth with a batch of flapjacks, corned beef hash with scrambled eggs, or a basket of just-made muffins. Banter with the good-natured waitresses and enjoy a perfect start to your day.

Jimmy Carter's Café, Hillcrest
Not affiliated with the former prez, but still famous in its own right for bounteous breakfasts and more. This San Diego corner café draws a mostly local crowd with American comfort food - corned beef hash, fried eggs, omelets, waffles and pancakes - and international breakfasts like Indian crepes and Mexican tortilla casserole.

The Mission (Downtown, North Park, Mission Beach)
Breakfast sparkles at these hip and whimsical cafes run by a trio of talented restaurateurs. Along with eye-opening espresso drinks and sensational fruit smoothies, best bets include specialty pancakes, cinnamon french toast and Mexican-style dishes such as breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros. Expect long waits on the weekends at these popular eateries.

Original Pancake House (Kearny Mesa, Encinitas, Poway, Vista)
Saturdays and Sundays, it seems like everyone in town is lined up awaiting a table at this family-friendly restaurant. It's mostly about pancakes - buttermilk, chocolate chip, sourdough, apple-stuffed, strawberry, you name it - but other items such as waffles, omelets and bacon and eggs are popular as well.

Pearl Chinese Cuisine, Rancho Bernardo
Looking for divine dim sum in San Diego? Starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, servers push carts laden with these Chinese delicacies through the spacious dining room for customers to pick and choose. From savory (barbecued beef buns, potstickers, shrimp dumplings) to sweet (custards, sesame balls, mango pudding), Pearl offers excellence and variety for dim sum fans and novices alike.
