North Coastal San Diego

A First-Class Destination for Arts and Culture

There's no denying the allure of North Coastal San Diego. It is where the cool, southern California vibe meets modern luxury and refined culture.

Seaside Sensations

North Coastal San Diego is about more than just luxury as it is home to miles of inspiring coastline. Start your day with a hike through Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve where you can work up a sweat while being taken in by the majestic views of the cliffs and ocean. For the watersport enthusiast, a visit to the sea caves at La Jolla Cove will excite your senses as there is kayaking, snorkeling and surfing to experience – year-round.

Where Science Meets Architecture Meets Art

For those interested in notable architecture, North Coastal has you covered. A popular site is the Salk Institute designed by Louis Kahn, one of the most influential architects of the modern era. And the quirky mushroom-shaped Sam Bell Beach House perched right on Black's Beach is another must-see local landmark. For those looking for more conventional types of art, a visit to UC San Diego campus should be included on any itinerary as The Stuart Collection is filled with unique, site-specific works by some of the leading artists of our time. For art mixing whimsy with a solid dose of nostalgia, UC San Diego also has Dr. Seuss’s collection, a long-time resident of the area, on display during the summer months and every March.

Performing Arts

For theater devotees, there is no shortage of compelling live performances to experience at the La Jolla Playhouse. Time and again, musicals have stopped here prior to their debut on Broadway with that cadence not to slow anytime soon. For concerts, look no further than the eclectic programming of the La Jolla Music Society. Throughout the year at varying locations, you can see a classical ballet, famed orchestras, jazz greats like Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, and premier chamber groups. The Music Society also hosts SummerFest, a nationally recognized chamber music festival featuring more than 70 world-class artists and ensembles.

Art of the Village

Amid all of the opulence that is North Coastal San Diego, it should be no surprise that this community also excels at works of public art. Home to more than 15 commissioned art pieces (thanks to Murals of La Jolla) all on display in this stunning seaside village, this collection should be on any art lover's San Diego bucket list. While there, make sure to expand your horizons and partake in the art of shopping and dining as North Coastal is home to some of San Diego’s finest shopping and fare.
