Binational Race is a one-of-a-kind international running event that connects San Diego and Tijuana through sport, culture, and community. Now in its third edition, the Binational Race offers athletes the rare opportunity to run from San Diego to Tijuana through one of the busiest land border crossings in the world, creating an unforgettable cross-border endurance experience.
As runners cross into Mexico, they are welcomed by the powerful sounds of a live mariachi band, marking the moment with celebration, pride, and cultural energy that few races in the world can offer. Participants can choose between a Half Marathon (21K) or 12K, both designed to challenge runners while celebrating unity, movement, and the shared identity of the binational region.
To ensure a seamless race-day experience, shuttle transportation is provided from the finish line in Tijuana back to the San Ysidro Port of Entry, making it easy for participants and spectators to return to San Diego.
The celebration continues at a high-energy finish-line festival, where runners enjoy live music, local food, cultural performances, and a vibrant post-race atmosphere. It's a moment to celebrate the achievement with family and friends and to fully experience the joy of crossing not just a finish line, but a border. The Binational Race blends athletic accomplishment with cultural celebration—positioning San Diego as a global destination for sports tourism, international events, and cross-border collaboration.
