SDB presents an annual concert season of classical and contemporary dance to its diverse audience, secures touring engagements to present SDB original repertoire and provides arts education in the community through outreach programs and scholarships. SDB is committed to reflecting a Southern California cultural aesthetic in its programming.
San Diego Ballet's mission is to excite, enrich, and entertain its diverse audience through an imaginative presentation of classical and contemporary dance.
On an average, SDB presents 3 world premieres a year by resident choreographer, Javier Velasco. One or more is based on Latin American themes or to popular music from the 20th Century. Additionally, while SDB presents a great many family-friendly ballets (Nutcracker, Alice: Wonderland, Carnival of the Animals), it also presents ballets geared to a more adult sensibility (Echale Salsita, Love: 20 Cents the First-Quarter Mile.)
