The 30th annual Mainly Mozart Festival, set for June 1-24, 2018 and led by Music Director Michael Francis, continues its six-year exploration of Mozart’s life with Year Three - Brave New World: From Rebel to Entrepreneur. In his early 20s, and longer Europe’s “golden child”, financial need forced Mozart to become a musical entrepreneur, dedicating himself to the business of music. Some of Mozart’s greatest works of this period will be featured in Festival programming, along with boundary-breaking works by other composers. Throughout the month of June, Orchestral and Chamber Music concerts, lectures, parties, and presentations throughout San Diego and Tijuana illustrate the story of one of the greatest geniuses of all time.
June 1, 2, 3, 22, 24 | Chamber Music concerts in La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe and Carlsbad open and close the 2018 Festival.
June 3, 5:00 PM |Mainly Mozart’s 200-member Youth Orchestra in their year-end performance, featuring violin soloists Alexander Kerr and Nathan Olson.
June 8-10, The fourth annual Genius Weekend is an intense three days of concerts, lectures, and parties celebrating genius in the spirit of Mozart. In 2018 this event honors Nobel Laureate and Salk Institute CEO Elizabeth Blackburn, and celebrates “genius in unexpected places” with a focus on autism spectrum in partnership with TERI, Inc. and Autism Society of San Diego.
