A.R. Valentien is the signature restaurant of The Lodge at Torrey Pines, a luxury resort set atop the coastal cliffs of La Jolla, California. The restaurant is a fine dining destination for fresh regional cuisine, and its sophisticated setting – seemingly one part restaurant, one part art gallery – features panoramic views of the adjacent Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean.
A.R. Valentien’s design is reflective of The Lodge’s Craftsman-style architecture and boasts natural woods and leathers that create a classically elegant ambiance. Inside, guests dine beside Tiffany lamps, an impressive wine cellar and a collection of artwork from Albert Robert Valentien, the California Impressionist after whom the restaurant is named. From A.R. Valentien’s terrace, visitors can enjoy outdoor scenery that spans for miles as they take in San Diego’s perfect climate.
Executive Chef Jeff Jackson leads the kitchen and has garnered national recognition for his efforts in launching San Diego’s farm-to-table movement. Trained under the legendary Jean LaFont and having cooked at the James Beard House, Chef Jackson brings more than 30 years of culinary experience to The Lodge, where his trademark style of market-driven, seasonal cooking focuses on quality and freshness of foodstuffs. He is a former winner of the esteemed USA Bocuse d’Or Culinary Gold Cup competition and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York.
At A.R. Valentien, Chef Jackson’s creations use ingredients sourced from local fishermen, specialty food purveyors and San Diego’s small farms and orchards; it is through this commitment to sustainability and ethical practices that the restaurant succeeds in nourishing its guests, its community and the earth. A.R. Valentien also features an extensive list of California wines produced via sustainable and environmentally friendly methods, a selection of locally brewed craft beers, and craft cocktails created with freshly squeezed juices and the finest spirits.
Special events include A.R. Valentien’s weekly Artisan Table dinner series, an intimate, communal dining experience on the restaurant’s terrace that features four unique courses paired with regional wines. Chef Jackson also headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft charity event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking.
