Sports San Diego is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, with the purpose of driving visitor demand to economically benefit the San Diego region through producing the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl, Rady Children's Invitational, and California State Games and recruiting, supporting, and hosting world-class sports events.
Sports Commission and Event Producers
Since 1977, the Holiday Bowl has generated $977 million in economic impact and 819, 000 hotel room nights for the San Diego region. With the support of the San Diego Tourism Authority and Tourism Marketing District, Sports San Diego launched a sports commission in January 2022 to serve as the primary organization responsible for marketing San Diego as a sports destination and driving visitor demand through recruiting, supporting, and hosting world-class sports events. In 2023, Sports San Diego brought the California State Games, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and the largest amateur sports festival in the state, under the Sports San Diego umbrella and now helps produce the annual event.
In February of 2023, Sports San Diego launched the Rady Children's Invitational, a men's collegiate basketball tournament, with the inaugural event on Thanksgiving 2023 and the day after.
