Located adjacent to downtown San Diego in Balboa Park, the Zoo is 100 acres in size and is home to more than 4,000 animals representing more than 650 species from around the world. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit amazing habitats for animals such as gorillas, Komodo dragons, tigers, flamingos, mandrills, polar bears, birds of paradise, giant tortoises, elephants, and more.
Throughout the entire month of October, children 11 years old and younger receive free admission. Kids Free month gives children an opportunity to visit the Zoo and learn about the Earth’s creatures and the conservation efforts underway to save them. During our October Kids Free event, each ticketed/membership holding supervising adult may bring up to 6 youths (ages 11 and younger) free.
October 1-31, 2026, kids (11 and younger) entrance is free, no ticket required. October free entrance for kids includes the Guided Bus Tour and the Skyfari aerial tram (subject to availability).
