Welcome to San Diego

San Diego is California’s second largest city and a top highlight of any United States holiday.  Whether by rental car or on a guided tour, the San Diego region offers great sightseeing experience including national parks, mountain ranges, fun seaside drives and activities such as craft beer and wine tours, whale watching and special events.  Beyond the beach, San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter offers 16 walkable blocks of nightclubs, boutique shopping, entertainment and locally sourced Cali Baja cuisine. 

Known as the birthplace of California, San Diego has a host of historical locations to discover including Old Town San Diego, Cabrillo National Monument and Mission del Alcala, the first of the California missions. Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in America, offers 15 major museums plus performing arts, beautiful garden and the San Diego Zoo.  Other San Diego attractions include SeaWorld San Diego, USS Midway, LEGOLAND California and the San Diego Safari Park.

Off the beaten path, you’ll find local neighborhoods to explore, each with their own vibe and culture. And if you’re more adventurous, just east is the Anza Borrego Desert State Park, featuring five hundred miles of wilderness. Located on the border of Baja California, Mexico, San Diego is also a great home base for a two nation vacation.   

Getting Here

San Diego by Air

  • San Diego is easy to access by air with connection flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas in less than 1.5 hours. There are also direct connections available from all major hub cities in the United States including New York, Chicago, Miami and Dallas.

San Diego via Ground

  • California: Los Angeles, is just 193 kilometers north of San Diego, and easily accessible by car or train with about a two hour travel time. Plan around half a day of ground travel time to San Francisco, which is located 800 kilometers north.
  • Las Vegas: If you’re planning on visiting Las Vegas, you can catch a one hour flight or drive. Its located 700 kilometers northeast, around 6 hours of travel time by car.
