A Romantic Escape to Coronado, California

A signature blend of luxury and one-of-a-kind adventures, Coronado is the perfect place to plan a romantic escape.

A signature blend of luxury and one-of-a-kind adventures, Coronado is the perfect place to plan a romantic escape. Set along sparkling San Diego Bay and the blue Pacific, Coronado's white sandy beaches, moonlit ocean and bay views and small-town quaintness make the "Crown City" an idyllic paradise for couples who are searching for something that is fresh and exciting.

From couple's spa treatments, to candlelit dinners in award-winning restaurants, to a night at the theater, there is no better place to indulge in a little romance than Coronado.

DELIGHTFUL DIVERSIONS

  • Set against picturesque San Diego Bay, Loews Coronado Bay Resort offers Voga Voyage, a relaxing 40-minute couple's massage that is enjoyed while cruising in an authentic Venetian gondola through the beautiful canals and waterways of neighboring Coronado Cays. Designed for couples, the Voga Voyage takes place on a 33-foot gondola equipped with two professional massage tables. Complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries are offered during the final 10 minutes of the relaxing treatment.
  • Couples can also cruise the enchanting canals and waterways of Coronado Cays on a gentle, one-hour gondola ride. Blankets are provided along with a complimentary appetizer or dessert plate, and guests can bring their own beverage.
  • The landmark oceanfront Hotel del Coronado has enjoyed more than 120 years of legendary history and romance. A National Historic Landmark, the hotel was renovated in 2007 with the addition of the luxurious Beach Village; Eno, a wine and chocolate tasting room; the brand new Spa at the Del, and redesign of its signature 1500 Ocean restaurant.
Some of the Del's romantic offerings include: S'more Bubbly package which allows couples to enjoy s'mores and a bottle of house champagne at their very own private bonfire on the beach; S'more Passion Moet package which includes a bottle of Moet Imperial Champagne, romantic tea light candles set in a heart shape and a plush keepsake Moet blanket, and the That's S'more package which includes the original S'more Bubbly package plus a side-by-side Swedish massage at the Spa at the Del.
  • On the back patio of the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa, couples can cozy up and relax in double hammocks against a spectacular backdrop of sparkling San Diego Bay and swaying palm trees.
  • Couples can watch the sun dip into the horizon while embarking on a romantic voyage around the bay or ocean on a rented sailboat or paddleboat available through Seaforth Boat Rental, located across from the Glorietta Bay Inn. For those who want to snuggle instead of sail, they can even hire a licensed skipper and let him do all the work. Power boats and wave runners are also available for more adventurous couples.
  • Exploring Coronado by bike is a wonderful way for couples to see the sites and spend quality time with one another. Beach cruisers, mountain bikes and surreys are available at local bike shops and the island's resorts like the Hotel del Coronado, Loews Coronado Bay Resort and the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. Pedaling through Coronado is a perfect activity to experience the island's charming neighborhoods and visit the many restaurants and shops along Orange Avenue and at the Coronado Ferry Landing.
  • For a taste - and toast - of the town, couples can sample a wide array of rich imported and locally-grown olive oils and fine aged vinegars at Coronado Taste of Oils while viewing stunning artworks. Just down the block, couples can raise their glass at WineStyles and enjoy the largest selection of wines on the island, plus live jazz music every Thursday through Saturday.

CANDLELIT DINNERS FOR TWO

  • Set against a backdrop of spectacular sunsets, breathtaking bay views and the sparkling lights of downtown San Diego, Mistral at Loews Coronado Bay Resort provides the perfect setting for a romantic dinner. Chef Patrick Ponsaty, a 3-Star Michelin rated chef, blends the flavors of Northern Italy and Southern France with locally caught seafood, fresh pasta, seasonal vegetables and organic herbs from the resort's onsite garden.
  • At the Hotel del Coronado's signature restaurant, 1500 OCEAN, couples can enjoy romantic beachfront dining in a beautiful setting that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Before dinner, guests can take in the views from the Sunset Bar, which features fireside cocktails and live entertainment on select nights. 1500 OCEAN's dinner menu showcases Chef de Cuisine Aaron Martinez' signature Southland Coastal Cuisine made with fresh ingredients from local farmers and producers, complemented by a diverse selection of wines from local vineyards.
  • Surrounded by San Diego skyline views, Current at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa offers a healthy selection of coastal California cuisine in a casual, yet sophisticated setting. Guests can dine alfresco on the patio and take in the panoramic views of San Diego Bay from the fire pit table, or cozy up inside for a romantic candlelit dinner for two.
  • For over 36 years, Chez Loma French Bistro in the heart of Coronado has been serving an award-winning menu made from the finest local ingredients and carefully selected imported products. The menu features the best in French cuisine and mouthwatering desserts that pair perfectly with the wine list. Set in a historic Victorian home, this nostalgic restaurant is the epitome of romance with its intimate setting, dim lighting and fresh flowers and candles on every table.
  • Set along San Diego Bay at the Coronado Ferry Landing, Candelas on the Bay is an intimate hacienda that is perfect for a romantic rendezvous. The menu offers an array of outstanding Mexico City-style dishes, from Jumbo prawns flamed with tequila to Beef filet served on a mirror of peanut and Chile guajillo sauce. Guests can also enjoy live music and gorgeous views of San Diego's downtown skyline.
  • Specializing in fresh tropical seafood dishes influenced by Pacific Rim flavors, Peohe's restaurant also boasts a superb Sushi Bar featuring innovative rolls and new wave sushi creations. Elegant tiered seating not only affords couples a bit of privacy; it also allows them to fully enjoy the spectacular views of San Diego Bay and downtown San Diego that surround the restaurant.
  • Built in 1887, the Coronado Boathouse actually predates the Hotel del Coronado by a year. The waterfront restaurant, located within short walking distance from the Del and Glorietta Bay Inn, was designed by the Reid brother architects, the same men who designed the Del. Couples can enjoy an intimate romantic setting while feasting from the Boathouse's gourmet steak and seafood menu.

A NIGHT OF THEATER

  • For a romantic evening out at the theater, couples can attend a performance by the award-winning Lamb's Players Theatre, which performs five productions per year at its 350-seat Resident Stage in the historic Spreckels Building in downtown Coronado. Lamb Players's year-long production schedule includes a variety of premieres, classics, musicals and comedies; its 2012 season includes Guys and Dolls, Brownie Points, Joe vs The Volcano, See How They Run and Around the World in 80 Days.
