Wildlife Safari

Wildlife Safari

The Wildlife Safari is a must-do. First step: Climb into the back of an open-air safari truck and prepare to be amazed. Because you’re venturing on a 90-minute ride into the savanna habitat for an up-close and personal view of the animals. Here, you’ll find species from all walks of life, from giraffes to rhinos to buffalo, roaming side by side. And the best part? The adorable little babies, of course!

Condor Recovery Program

Condor Recovery Program

If you’re into conservation, which, let’s be real, you should be — then you’ve gotta visit the California Condor Ridge. The California Condor Recovery Program is one of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s (SDZWA) biggest accomplishments. In 1982, only 22 birds remained in the wild because of poaching and lead poisoning. So, SDZWA began the first captive propagation program for California condors. And guess what? It really worked! Now the population of California condors is more than 500 AND more than half of the birds are now flying free in the wild.

Behind-The-Scenes Safari

Behind-The-Scenes Safari

If you thought the Wildlife Safari was up close and personal, wait ‘til you try The Behind-The-Scenes Safari. It’s the Park’s most exclusive experience. You get a special sneak peek into the secret lives of your favorite wildlife, and you get to meet the wildlife care specialists who care for them. The team introduced me to Padmae the Aardvark and Cora the Tamandua. They even showed me how to do an Aardvark ultrasound. I thought I knew a lot about animals, but even I learned something here! And yes, I’ll be putting that on my future resume.

San Diego is a Wildlife Wonderland

The unusual animal experiences don’t stop at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. San Diego is also home to a world-famous zoo, SeaWorld San Diego, butterfly farms, a camel farm, a wolf center, I can go on and on. And then there’s the wildlife! You can visit La Jolla Cove any time of the year and find tons of sea lions sunbathing on the rocks. Plus, it’s not unusual to spot a dolphin or a whale if you look hard enough. If you want to be sure though, there’s tons of boats waiting to take you on a whale watching tour — just be ready for some BIG breakthroughs! So, no matter if you go with a guide or go as your own guide, you can always count on discovering wild fun in San Diego.
