U.S. Travel Releases Domestic Travel Market Report
Key findings from this annual benchmark include:
- Leisure remains the primary purpose of travel, accounting for 71 percent of all trips in 2013
- In 2103, there was an increasing amount of business travelers under age 35 than in 2008
- Leisure trips were more likely to be comprised of adults only in 2013 with smaller travel parties than five years ago
- Sightseeing and nature/outdoor activities were more likely to occur in the West than other regions. Also more common in the West region were State and National Park activities
- Family/reunion activities were most common in the Southern region
- Offline planning sources such as friends, relatives and previous experience were increasingly relied on and remain the most important resources for trip planning
- While the average age of domestic travelers has remained fairly consistent, the youngest and oldest travelers have steadily increased
- Data provided allows for five year comparisons between 2008-2013
