The sun shines almost every day in San Diego, making it the perfect place to bask in awesome autumn weather and enjoy all of the great outdoor sports events the region has to offer — from baseball to football to thunderboat racing to surfing contests and a whole lot more!
Events are subject to change or cancellation, so please check with event organizers for the most up-to-date information. This guide to fall outdoor sports events is updated annually, so some listings may be out of date, but they still provide valuable insight into San Diego’s yearly offerings and are refreshed as new information becomes available.

Grab your vintage surfboard (or beach chair) and gather for a nostalgic longboard competition at the North Side of Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach.
Ken Whalen Surf Challenge
When: Sept. 13, 2026
The Ken Whalen Surf Challenge is in memory of Ken's love for family, surfing and the beach. The goal for the event is to encourage kids (including CAF adaptive surfers and Rady Children's Hospital Cancer Families) to strengthen their connection with surfing by competing and having a fun day at the beach with their friends and family.
San Diego Bayfair

San Diego Bayfair's World Series of Powerboat Racing - a family festival tradition for more than 40 years speeds to the finish line.
Belmont Park Dipper Dash 5K
When: Sept. 20, 2026
Starting and ending in the heart of Belmont Park, 5K participants will enjoy stunning views of Mission Beach, the iconic Giant Dipper Roller Coaster and all that the community has to offer.
Poway Rodeo
When: Sept. 25 - 26, 2026
Professional rodeo cowboys from around the country compete during the annual Poway Rodeo. Can they hold on for 8 seconds.
Buffalo Alley 10K Trail Run
When: Sept. 26, 2026
This race is a 10K trail run in the northwestern foothills of Camp Pendleton. The course offers a challenging hill climb, rolling hills along the ridgeline, and scenic views of surrounding mountains and meadows.

Carmel Valley Trail 15k, 10k and 5k
When: Oct. 10, 2026
On the Carmel Valley Trail 15K, 10K and 5K, participants will experience a combination of single track and dirt service road trails through beautiful open spaces.
Bikes and Beers
When: Oct. 10, 2026
Bikes and Beers San Diego is back, start at Alesmith Brewing and ride 15 or 30 miles through the city of San Diego with a large group and enjoy some of the best sights of the city!
XTERRA Wetsuits Mission Bay Triathlon
