San Diego's Black Experience: Stories, Flavors and Places
San Diego’s Black experience is unlike any other – shaped by connection, grounded in relationships and built in community with the rich cultures that define this city.
These articles will reflect what Black travel looks and feels like in San Diego, not only through our own cultural lens, but also through our shared experiences with others. We honor our heritage and ancestors while simultaneously embracing the vibrant presence of our Jamaican, Mexican, Latino, Filipino, and African brothers and sisters, communities that shape the heart of San Diego. This content is a celebration of that intersection: fully rooted in Black identity while joyfully engaging with the diverse cultures that surround and uplift us.
At the center of this evolution is the Black Arts and Culture District, a hub for our community moving forward. It honors the full spectrum of our stories, from the African American experience to the African diaspora to the border wall, creating a space that centers and elevates our lived experiences.
