Proposed Guidelines for Convention Center, Hotel Meetings & Events

Due to the importance of convention, meetings and events to our tourism economy, several leading organizations have developed safe and responsible reopening plans.

State of California

The State of California created a Resilience Roadmap detailing plans for reopening the state, including industry-specific guidelines for Phase 2.

• Hotels for leisure business, including their pools.
• Bars, breweries and wineries.
• Museums, zoos and aquariums, including Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo.
• Family entertainment venues such as arcades, miniature golf and bowling alleys.
• Outdoor activities including campgrounds, fishing and charter boats

County of San Diego

The County of San Diego has the following reopening checklists:

• Safe Reopening Plan This checklist plan currently does not need to be submitted but should be completed and displayed on the front door of the business. The stages for reopening can be found here.

San Diego International Airport

• The San Diego International Airport released a set of guidelines and precautions implemented to ensure the health and safety of travelers. View the Let's Go Safely protocol infographic here. 

City of San Diego

• Farmers’ Market guidelines that provide a roadmap for outdoor events.
• The Downtown San Diego Partnership provided proposed guidelines for safely reopening businesses.
• The San Diego Convention Center detailed the steps and cleaning practices it has implemented, as well as a reopening guide.
• The San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation created a resources page for San Diego businesses.
• The City of San Diego created outdoor dining and retail supplemental guidelines for street closure permits.
• The City of San Diego created guidance for artisan retail markets and special events.

Hotels

The hotel industry is working on operational and sanitation improvements that are designed to ensure guest and employee safety while providing peace of mind and a positive experience.

• The California Department of Public Health created a document that provides insight for hotels on how to ensure workers and customers stay safe and healthy in Phase 2 opening: COVID-19 Industry Guidance: Hotels and Lodging
• The American Hotel & Lodging Association is working on its “Safe Stay” initiative to develop enhanced hotel cleaning practices, social interactions and workplace guidelines for the industry at large.
• The California Hotel and Lodging Association released both its guidance and a checklist for reopening.

Major Attractions

• San Diego’s attractions—including SeaWorld, Legoland, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park and the USS Midway—have developed a reopening health and safety plan.
• Six Flags introduced a new registration system to ensure proper social distancing.
• The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park created a Reopening Plan detailing the changes that they have put in place to ensure guest safety.
