La Jolla Shores Hotel is a beachfront hotel in La Jolla, San Diego, steps from the sand at La Jolla Shores beach, with unobstructed ocean views from the balconies and an on-site restaurant open to the public. Rooms
128 guest rooms, spanning rooms with full kitchens and kitchenettes to king rooms and double queens, plus ADA-accessible rooms. Rooms look out over the beach, toward the coastline and Scripps Pier, or onto the garden. Every room includes a mini refrigerator, coffee maker, in-room safe, steamer, robes and unlimited local and toll-free calls. Rollaway beds are complimentary on request, and many rooms connect, which suits families traveling with grandparents.
The beach
Complimentary beach chairs, umbrellas and towels are set out daily from morning until sundown — four chairs and one umbrella per guest room, signed out with a beach attendant. Alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted on the beach. La Jolla Shores is the calmest, most forgiving beach in San Diego: wide, gently sloping, and the stretch local surf schools use for first-timers. Kayak tours to the La Jolla sea caves, snorkeling in the San Diego–La Jolla Underwater Park ecological reserve and shore diving over the underwater canyon all launch from the sand in front of the hotel. Rentals and lessons are a short walk up Avenida de la Playa.
Pool, courtyard and activities
A year-round heated pool and hot tub, a fitness center for guests 18 and over, and massage services. The courtyard has ping pong, Connect Four and fire pits, with s'mores kits available. E-bike rentals are complimentary for the first hour. Guests also have access to tennis and pickleball clinics at neighboring La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
Dining
The Shores Restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner with ocean views, indoor and outdoor seating and a bar, and it's open to the public rather than hotel guests only. Complimentary coffee is served in the lobby each morning. The Marine Room, home of the High Tide Dinners, is next door.

Check-in is at 4:00 p.m. and check-out at 11:00 a.m. The hotel is dog-friendly in both guest rooms and public areas. It is 100% smoke-free with 24-hour security, and Wi-Fi is unlimited throughout. Self-parking is available in the on-site garage for a daily fee, and free street parking is available in the neighborhood. A nightly resort fee applies. The hotel accepts government per diem rates, which matters for UC San Diego, Scripps and federally funded travel.
Getting here and getting around
The hotel is at 8110 Camino Del Oro. A complimentary shuttle serves destinations within five miles, which covers most of La Jolla — useful for guests arriving without a car. Kellogg Park is 300 feet away and Birch Aquarium at Scripps half a mile. Scripps Pier is 0.7 miles, UC San Diego and La Jolla Cove two miles, Westfield UTC three. SeaWorld is 6.5 miles, Del Mar Racetrack 8.5, the San Diego Zoo and Gaslamp Quarter 10, Balboa Park and the USS Midway Museum 11, Petco Park 12 and LEGOLAND 19. San Diego International Airport is about 20 to 25 minutes south.
