One of the most unique ways to explore San Diego's gorgeous coastline is from a kayak. An easy sport for beginners, kayaking is a great way to take a look at San Diego from the Pacific side, with plenty of coves and shoreline to explore.  It’s also a great way to get up-close to California’s diverse sea life.

Rentals and Tours

There are a number of companies in San Diego that offer kayak rentals as well as guided tours.  Popular launch spots can be found in Coronado, Mission Bay, La Jolla, Cardiff-by-Sea, Carlsbad and Oceanside. Guided tours are a fun and easy way to get out on the water. With highly informed and trained instructors as your guide, you'll learn to paddle and navigate your kayak in no time. Some of the most popular kayaking tours take visitors through La Jolla's underwater ecological reserve and sea caves, providing up-close encounters with marine life such sea lions, garibaldi and leopard sharks. There are also whale-watching kayak adventures, and tours through the calmer waters of Mission Bay. Or for a romantic kayaking experience, try a sunset or moonlight kayak tour for a truly unique adventure.
