Be Greek for the day and enjoy authentic food, music, live entertainment, dancing, children's activities and more the Annual Cardiff Greek Festival.
Held at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, welcome to the church grounds transformed into a quaint Greek village atmosphere where you can experience:
Typifies a traditional Bazaar with Greek imports, fine jewelry, artwork, Greek Deli specialty food items, a selection of special Greek wines, and an array of items at YiaYia's (Grandma's) Treasures. Visit the Church booth and learn to say and write your name in Greek. Then get a personalized T-shirt with your new name in Greek letters. While adults are shopping, the children can enjoy the new Fun Zone with miniature golf, and Olympic game booths for kids of all ages.
Visitors can experience a variety of traditional Greek cuisine and new specialties as if they came straight from the Greek Cusina Kitchen. Appetizers include Tiropita (cheese phyllo pie), Dolmathes (grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat served warm with egg lemon sauce), Dolmathes Yialantzi (grape leaves stuffed with rice, pine nuts and herbs), Keftethes (Greek meatballs), Loukaniko (Greek sausage), Taramosalata (Greek caviar dip), Rizogalo (Greek rice pudding), and the ever-popular Loukoumathes (honey-dipped Greek donuts). Other specialties feature succulent Lamb and Chicken Souvlakia (shish-kabob), Gyros (seasoned meat, onions, tomatoes, tzatziki sauce on pita bread), Spanakopita (spinach phyllo pie), Pastitsio (baked layers of macaroni, seasoned meat, cheese and béchamel sauce), and Salata (Greek salad with olives and feta cheese). In addition, enjoy freshly brewed Greek coffee with many famous homemade Greek pastries in the Kafenio (Coffeehouse) while being entertained by live music.
The church's award-winning folk dance troupes, Armonia and Neo Kyma Dancers, will perform in full traditional dress on the outdoor patio. Those interested in learning to Greek dance will have the opportunity as instruction will take place throughout the weekend. Afterward, try Greek dancing in the Taverna to the live music of the popular and contemporary band The Olympians.
A variety of Olympic themed games, miniature golf, and activities are available across the festival weekend.
