Attention is being paid to the honeybee decline, but what about native bees? In this talk, Sam Droege, wildlife biologist at USGS, discusses all about California’s native bees, how we can support them, and shares his stunning macro-photography.
Museum doors open at 5:30 PM. Food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase at the Flying Squirrel Café before the talk. Join Sam after the talk for a signing of his book, Bees: An Up-Close Look at Pollinators Around the World.

Pre/Post Tour Extension Marston House Museum

What better way to extend your tour on Friday, Saturday or Sunday than with a pre or post visit to Balboa Park's classic 1905 Marston House. Built by Architects Irving Gill & William Hebbard, for noted civic leader and merchant, George W. Marston, known as the “Father of Balboa Park.” It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 8,500 square foot estate provides a rare glimpse into the lifestyle of one of San Diego's most prominent and progressive families. It has 5 acres of landscaped grounds and some outbuildings. North of the house, is a 2 1/2 acre Formal, English garden created in 1927 for the Marston's 50th anniversary. The museum’s gift shop is located in the carriage house. It is known as one of the best in the city, offering a distinctive mix of historical and architectural books and decorative arts gift items.

Pre/Post Tour Extension: Outdoor Organ Concert

Free transportation to the entrance of the Organ Pavilion is available, as a pre or post, paid tour extension.

Concerts are on Sunday at 2 pm at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion.  This is the largest outdoor pipe organ in the world. It contains more than 5,000 pipes ranging in length from the size of a pencil to 32 feet. The Spreckels Organ Pavilion was built in 1914, in Italian-Renaissance style. It can seat 25 hundred people. It has ornate embellishments & two semi-circular, Corinthian-style colonnades. San Diego's current Civic Organist is Raul Prieto Ramírez.
