Mainly Mozart Festival

For over 30 years, the Mainly Mozart Festival has been gathering the greatest collection of orchestral players in North America.

This conclave of musical champions comes together in San Diego every June for exclusive concerts at the intimate Balboa Theatre.

Music Director Michael Francis is guiding the orchestra in a six-year exploration of Mozart as a composer and personality. As we enter the fourth year of this journey, we come into the heart of Mozart’s music and explore the beginning of Vienna, The Golden Years (Part I).

The 2020 Festival features beloved Mozart masterpieces such as the Piano Concerto No. 20, and the Prague Symphony. Other 2020 Festival highlights include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5.

Terence Blanchard’s opera Fire Shut Up In My Bones made history in 2021 as the first work written by a Black composer to be staged at the Metropolitan Opera.
This “opera in jazz,” as Blanchard describes it, tells the true coming-of-age story of a young boy growing up in the face of great adversity and forging his personal identity.
Now, in this visually captivating concert performance, Terence Blanchard brings us a new suite of music from the piece.
