The PGK Dance Project is a premiere contemporary dance company established in 1994 by Peter G. Kalivas between Munich, Germany and New York City, and San Diego-based since 2002. In residence at Culture Shock Dance Center of San Diego, the multi-ethnic company is composed of highly skilled professional dancers performing the work of award-winning Director/Choreographer Peter G. Kalivas and a wide variety of commissioned choreographers of today. Over the past 22 years, The PGK Dance Project has danced on stages and alternate spaces around the world in Europe, Central and South America, Central Asia, Asia and Australia and as a Cultural Envoy of the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Education and Culture.
The PGK Project, Inc. is our dance-centered nonprofit organization incorporated in 2006 receiving diverse grants, donations and sponsorships that support our work. Our 6 Core programs include: The PGK Dance Project professional repertory company performing locally, Nationally, Internationally, The PGK Dance Project TOO pre-professional training program and apprentice company, The Ascend Project, a leadership work-study program for talented low-income young adults, Summer Intensive with world class faculty, annual Dance into Summer performance at Spanish Village Art Center Balboa Park, San Diego Dances, Dance on the Edge at Mission Federal Credit Union's ArtWalk Little Italy, The PGK Dance Passport providing discounts to our events to members, annual Mediterranean Nights and Pancakes with PGK fundraiser and other special events.
We are best known for presenting world class dance inalternative spaces includgin: a hair salon, converted gas station, warehouse, loft space, and on however each Fall we "Fall Back" into the Lyceum Theater downtown for 3 shows in a traditional stage setting. This doesn't mean our show is traditional which often spills into and directly engages the audience nonetheless.
