The Art of the Ney: Contemporary Sounds of Iran

Feb 21, 2025

This is the second concert of the 2025 Center for World Music concert series Echoes of Time.

La Jolla Community Center

Friday, January 17, 2025 | 7:30 PM

Join us for an immersive performance by Mohammad Khodadadi, an acclaimed Persian composer and performer on the ney, an ancient end-blown cane flute that plays a central role in Persian mysticism. The sound of the ney is said to express the human soul’s longing for union with God, drawing listeners into an introspective, contemplative state. Born in Iran, and trained by masters of Persian music, Mohammad weaves the haunting sounds of the ney with the dynamic energy of Iranian bagpipes, blending traditional Persian melodies with his own innovative compositions.

Be an Ocean Connector and join us on a Wildlife Kayaking adventure!

Did you know that San Diego provides foraging habitat for the Eastern Pacific green sea turtle? This small feeding population consists of about 60 individuals, and we will be on the lookout for these beautiful creatures while paddling through the Chula Vista Wildlife Reserve. Our naturalist guide will point out marine and bird life and teach you about local ecology and conservation efforts.

All equipment is provided: Kayak, life vest, binoculars, and field guides.

Best of all, a portion of your Eco Tour ticket goes to our nonprofit environmental education programs. Learn more at: www.oceanconnectors.org/wildlife-kayaking/
