Make the climb on a 40-minute guided tour highlighting the origins of Balboa Park and the histories of some of the many diverse communities that call San Diego home. All tours culminate in breathtaking 360-degree views of San Diego from the Tower’s eighth-floor viewing deck–from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Cuyamaca Mountains in the east, and beyond.

The Flower Fields

For more than sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California.

2021 Cherry Blossom Season!

The Japanese Friendship Garden (JFG) is proud to announce the return of Cherry Blossom Week as Cherry Blossom Season! The celebration will continue to combine both cultural education with family fun by offering special virtual and on site programming during the month of March. From kendo demonstrations to visiting weekend vendors, there's something for everyone to enjoy at JFG or from the comforts of their home! On site visitors will be able to stroll the upper and lower areas featuring koi ponds, bonsai, colorful florae, and enjoy the Japanese custom of hanami — appreciating the beauty of cherry blossom flowers — while on demand performances and digital content will be readily available for everyone.

Virtual SDMA+ DISCO RIOT: Masters of Photography

Experience the stunning juxtaposition of art and dance in this moving solo modern dance performance inspired by works in the Masters of Photography exhibition. The dance will be performed by Guillermo Castro, and is choreographed by Zaquia Mahler Salinas, Artistic Director of DISCO RIOT.

This premiere Virtual SDMA+ DISCO RIOT online performance will be shared on The San Diego Museum of Art YouTube channel.
