Sip and Sketch Holiday Art Class

Sip, sketch, and color at our holiday art class with archaeological illustrator Donna Walker. Learn how to draw the native plant Toyon Berry, also known as California Holly, then color your creation with Prismacolor, an oil-based color pencil that blends and looks like watercolor when finished. You’ll learn techniques to give your objects depth and definition – gone will be the flat-looking images, yours will look 3-D! Finish by turning your drawing into a personalized holiday card.

Tickets include all art supplies and 2 drinks per person. 21+ only

About the Presenter: Donna Walker is an artist and archaeological illustrator based in Valley Center, CA. Recently, she has worked on projects for the Anthropology Department at UCSD illustrating Neolithic, Chalcolithic, and Bronze Age ceramics from Israel and Jordan.

Star of India Family Overnight Experience

Jul 26, 2024

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is proud to offer this unique opportunity to spend a night aboard the 1863 bark Star of India. Although we will not technically leave the dock, we will be embarking on an imaginary voyage to relive the lives and times of the many emigrant passengers in the Great Age of Sail. Your voyage provides a truly rare opportunity to see the Star of India, as you never have before! Not only will you see areas of the ship that are closed to the public, but you will be able to actually get a taste of what life at sea might have been like in the 19th century. We welcome you aboard and look forward to your arrival on this very special trip!

Restorative yoga sessions are held weekly at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings at the Museum of Us. All are welcome, regardless of physical ability, age, or yoga experience. Classes are held in the Museum’s historic rotunda by yoga instructor, Lunita Velásquez. Californian Tall Ship Adventure.

Apr 1 - ongoing

The Maritime Museum of San Diego invites you to join us for Tall Ship adventure sailing! This is a four-hour adventure history sail aboard the schooner Californian.
The Californian is a replica of a gold rush era revenue cutter and the Official Tall Ship of the State of California.

Arrive early to take in your general admission visit to the entire fleet and exhibits, then set sail!

Join the crew in sailing a traditionally rigged tall ship! Passengers will be invited to haul a line, man the helm and watch the crew as they scamper up and down the rigging to set and furl the sails. Listen as the Californian’s crew relates the history of sailing and exploration in San Diego, tales of whaling and sea otter trade, local sea battles, the art of ship’s gunnery, life at sea and more.
