Star of India Family Overnight Experience

Aug 9, 2024

Spend the night on the world’s oldest active sailing ship! Come aboard an icon in San Diego docked along downtown San Diego's beautiful waterfront. The Maritime Museum of San Diego is proud to offer this unique opportunity to spend a night aboard the 1863 bark Star of India. Although we will not technically leave the dock, we will be embarking on an imaginary voyage to relive the lives and times of the many emigrant passengers in the Great Age of Sail. Boarding Check-in: 2:00pm Friday. Program ends: 9:00am Saturday.

Art Reception: 2nd Annual ART+ LGBT History Month

Jul 8 - ongoing

ART+ LGBT HISTORY MONTH is a national exhibition and series of presentations by and for the LGBTQ+ community running October 3 - November 2, 2024 produced by The Studio Door during Natinoal LGBT History Month.

Collaborators include artist RD Riccoboni, Lambda Archives San Diego and podcaster Mike Bammer (Bammer47).

The convergence of art and history holds a profound power. Together they create a tapestry of culture that reflects the complexities of society, politics and personal stories. Experience the LGBTQ+ community from a different perspective in the inaugural ART+ LGBT History Month program produced by The Studio Door.

The two-part project features a month-long contemporary exhibition of local artworks and a one-day presentation of guest speakers followed by a gallery reception with participants.

Your voyage provides a truly rare opportunity to see the Star of India, as you never have before! Not only will you see areas of the ship that are closed to the public, but you will be able to actually get a taste of what life at sea might have been like in the 19th century. We welcome you aboard and look forward to your arrival on this very special trip!
