The San Diego Children’s Choir provides children with choral music education and performance opportunities that foster performance excellence and collaboration at the highest artistic level, nurturing individual development and creating a foundation for lifelong success. The Choir enriches the cultural fabric of San Diego County through the transformative power of music.
Every parent wants the best for their child. Good grades, strong social skills and a positive learning environment are a just a few of those aspirations.
Research has found that of all the performing arts, children who sing in choruses get better grades, have good practice and homework habits, and show high levels of creativity. But it goes even deeper than that. Children in choirs have been found to have more advanced social skills and are better team players than those who have not had that opportunity. Educators add that choir participants have better emotional expression and management and are more self-disciplined and punctual.
But what do the choristers themselves say? They say singing in the choir is confidence building, gives them an opportunity to perform in venues throughout the world and teaches them performance etiquette. As one San Diego Children’s Choir alumna put it most eloquently, “It’s fun, social, and teaches valuable life lessons.”
The mission of the San Diego Children’s Choir is to help them do all of those things.
Each year, more than 475 children, ages four to 18, come together from diverse communities to share in their love of music. What's our role? We are orchestrators of song and of the future.
