Killer Queen

Jun 19, 2024 - ongoing

Killer Queen will rock San Diego once again!

Formed back in June 1993, their first public shows were at London University, following in the footsteps of the real Queen, who played their first shows there 21 years earlier.

By 1995, Killer Queen's UK popularity had grown to such an extent they secured a residency in London's Strand Theatre attracting nationwide BBC coverage - the first tribute to have a show in the West End. Since then, the band's reputation has continued to grow, both in the UK and abroad.

Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen is proudly presented by San Diego Theatres at Balboa Theatre on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Tickets are available via San Diego Theatres and Ticketmaster.

Soundscapes of Afghanistan: Tradition Reimagined

Apr 18, 2025

This is the fourth concert of the 2025 Center for World Music concert series Echoes of Time.

Mingei International Museum

Friday, April 18, 2025 | 7:30 PM

Experience an unforgettable evening with Qais Essar, a pioneering Afghan composer and rabab virtuoso who weaves the traditional sounds of the mountainous Hindu Kush region with contemporary global music. The rabab, an instrument first mentioned in Arabic texts of the tenth century, is a plucked lute considered by many to be Afghanistan’s national instrument and a precursor of the sarod, prominent in North Indian classical music . Qais’s music blends Afghan folk, Americana, and other sources, creating a unique soundscape that feels both timeless and boundary-pushing.
