The San Diego Tourism Authority has named Rick Outcalt to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Citywide Sales. Outcalt, who most recently served as Director of Sales & Marketing for the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, will direct the citywide sales efforts for the San Diego Tourism Authority.
With more than 20 years in sales and convention management roles for several Marriott International, Inc. properties, Outcalt comes to San Diego Tourism Authority with a wealth of convention sales experience and 30 years in hospitality industry.
As Senior Vice President of Citywide Sales, Outcalt will oversee and set the strategic direction for the San Diego Tourism Authority's citywide convention sales efforts, including managing a team of eight national sales directors. With offices in Washington DC, Chicago and San Diego, the Citywide Sales team works to maximize the national trade show and convention market for San Diego. Caring for current customers while growing the existing customer base will be central for the Citywide Sales team as the San Diego Convention Center finalizes plans for a second expansion. The expected addition of more than 400,000 square feet to the existing Convention Center space will increase San Diego's ability to attract large conventions and remain one of the top 10 most desirable convention destinations.
With his extensive experience in convention sales and marketing, I am excited about the level of leadership that Rick will bring to our Citywide Sales Team," stated Joe Terzi, President & CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority. "As we continue to evolve the sales and marketing efforts of the San Diego Convention Center, it is crucial to recruit top leadership that can position San Diego as a national frontrunner for convention hosting," Terzi added. "With Rick's leadership, I feel confident we will continue to grow as a world-class convention destination."
As of July 1, 2012, sales and marketing of the San Diego Convention Center was awarded to the San Diego Tourism Authority.
