San Diego Tourism Authority Launches New Mobile Website

SDTA recently released a dynamic new mobile version of its website, www.sandiego.org.

The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) recently unveiled a dynamic new mobile version of its website, http://m.SanDiego.org. The sleek new site is a convenient on-the-go travel tool for visitors; chock full of information on local hotels, attractions, restaurants, transportation, tours and more.

Currently attracting more than 7 million online visitors annually, SanDiego.org is the official travel resource for the region, assisting leisure and business travelers with their trips to San Diego. Now when visitors access SanDiego.org from a smart phone or handheld device, they are automatically redirected to the mobile platform of the website.

"About 25% of our website traffic is from a smart phone," said Joe Terzi, President and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority. "We had to create a sleek seamless connection to travelers on the go. Now with just the swipe of a finger, San Diego visitors can book a hotel room, discover what restaurants, attractions and activities are nearby, and even create a Favorites page," Terzi added.

The new m.SanDiego.org site welcomes visitors with a vibrant warm, sunny interface of rotating imagery – embodying the San Diego brand – along with a truncated, fully functional version of the desktop website.

Key features on the new m.SanDiego.org include:
  • Accessing the mobile phone's location, providing visitors a list of what's nearby, as well as maps and directions from one point to another;
  • "Offers," redeemable by simply showing a coupon as it's displayed on the mobile phone;
  • A "Favorites" page that visitors can build listings of their favorite San Diego experiences and activities by simply clicking on a star icon;
  • "Events" around San Diego County;
  • "What's Nearby" with dropdowns of What to Do, Where to Stay, Dining & Nightlife and Trip Resources;
  • "Discover San Diego," where visitors can delve into sub-regions like Coronado, La Jolla, North County and East County and search Events, Dining, What to do, Where to stay and special Offers;
  • "What to Do" with dropdowns featuring Arts & Culture, Attractions, Beaches, Cruises from San Diego, Parks & Gardens, Sports & Recreation and more;
  • "Where to Stay," including a convenient Book Now tool;
  • And "Plan Your Trip" with dropdowns for Getting Around, Travel Guides and Visitor Information Centers.
The new m.SanDiego.org website represents a key component of SDTA's digital ecosystem, ensuring that all digital assets accurately reflect the destination's identity and the needs of visitors.

The mobile website development company mobiManage built the new m.SanDiego.org. Managed through Sitecore, a Microsoft .NET CMS platform, the new website offers increased flexibility for SDTA's 1,000-plus member organizations that can access an extranet feature to publish content directly to both the desktop and mobile versions of the website. This ensures that site content is fresh and up to date with the newest destination information and special offers.

San Diego visitor information can also be found on the following digital and social media platforms: SanDiego.org, blog.SanDiego.org, Twitter.com/VisitSanDiego, Facebook.com/SanDiego, Youtube.com/VisitSanDiego, Pinterest.com/VisitSanDiego and Plus.Google.com/+SanDiego.

The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of more than 1,000 member organizations, businesses, local governments and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. The SDTA markets and sells the greater San Diego region as a premier meeting and vacation destination.
