San Diego is home to art and craft galleries of all shapes and sizes, showcasing work from local, regional, emerging and international artists.
Start a collection or add that signature piece to your home by browsing through galleries in Little Italy, La Jolla, the Gaslamp Quarter, Ray Street in North Park, the Cedros Design District in Solana Beach and in the rustic stretches of East County.
Gallery walks and open houses throughout the region encourage viewing, mingling and purchasing. La Jolla is a vibrant hub for contemporary art with many of the region’s best galleries within blocks of each other, including Quint Contemporary Art, Thumbprint Gallery, Joseph Bellows Gallery, R.B. Stevenson Gallery and Madison Gallery.
Emerging artists and urban artwork are on view in the North Park neighborhood’s galleries. A great way to take in the artwork and meet the artists is to visit during a monthly event called Ray at Night when all the galleries open to visitors. And the sophisticated galleries in Little Italy host the monthly Kettner Nights, where you can explore art as well as unique furniture design.
San Diego’s beautiful weather and terrain creates the perfect venue for outdoor sculpture.
The Stuart Art Collection, spread throughout the campus of UC San Diego, is one of the best outdoor contemporary sculpture collections in the country. Or walk through the village of La Jolla to see the 14 large-scale murals by famed artists like John Baldessari, Ryan McGinness, and Kim MacConnel. Downtown San Diego has its share of outdoor art as well, from sculptures along the Embarcadero to graffiti by the famous French street artist Space Invader.
Whether it’s the sunny outdoors or inside sophisticated, cool galleries, there are artworks to delight, inspire and provoke throughout the San Diego region.
