51st Chicano Park Day Celebration
The theme for this year's virtual Chicano Park Day is: 'Chicano Park 51: Healing Our Past, Educating the Present, Leading into our Future".
If you are heading to a Padres baseball game with the whole clan in tow, check out these family insider tips.
Called the "best ballpark in baseball" by Ted Berg, USA Today Sports, Petco Park is every sports fan's dream. Located right on the San Diego bay, great weather, stunning views, and featuring a dozen local favorite food merchants and craft beer on draft, Petco Park rules!
Inside the park is a "beach" area—a.k.a. a sand pit where kids can play, with a view of the game for mom and dad! Just outside the "beach" area is a mini little league-sized field where kids can play some ball before and even during the game.
For families on a budget, food is allowed into the Padres' stadium. Drinks have some restrictions, but sealed water bottles that are 20 ounces or less, juice boxes and sealed milk containers are permitted.
Parking for the baseball games can be trickier. Head to the lot, find cheaper structures within walking distance to Petco Park, or take the trolley in. There is a "tail gate" lot available if you choose to have some pre-game parking lot fun.
Like any sporting event, be prepared in case things get loud or fans get unruly. Since there is essentially a kids zone, this helps with both. Remember to bring your hats and sunscreen on warmer days. And of course coats and blankets for the cooler days and night games. In fact, blankets or towels are great to have handy in the grassy area near the "beach" section for a picnic in the park.
No matter who you and your family are cheering for, heading to a ball game in San Diego is the ultimate fan experience!
