From the sand to the street, San Diego has been at the center of action sports for decades. Since the early days of surfing and skating, it’s been a place where the sports could grow, evolve and show the world the awesome things people can do on a board. Beginners and pros alike come to San Diego to shred in the sun, from world-class surf breaks to palm-lined skate parks – and the action sports culture and lifestyle is forever part of the city’s personality.
Chris Coté is a local San Diegan and an overall action sports expert. He’s been the Editor in Chief at Transworld Surf, an On-Air Announcer for World Surf League and a Play-by-Play Analyst for Vans Pro Skate Park Series. Chris grew up in the San Diego action sports world with the people and places that make it what it is—but he still walks the walk. Head to a local skate park or surf break and you very well might see Chris on a board, doing what he loves.
Mele is practically San Diego surf royalty. Granddaughter of Larry Gordon (of legendary San Diego surf company Gordon & Smith Surfboards), she has been riding the San Diego waves since she was 13—and began turning heads at competitions shortly after. Her surfing has taken her around the world, including tournaments in Fiji, Australia and Bali, but she always loves coming back home to the feel-good vibes of San Diego. While she’s an expert on a longboard in the water, she’s also quite the artist when she’s on dry land.
