The country’s largest gathering of concertmasters and principal players from the nation’s top orchestras will once again come together in San Diego June 15-24 as the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival celebrates its 35th season. Under the baton of Maestro Michael Francis the festival will return to the open-air Del Mar Surf Sports Park and will expand to two new festival venues: the Conrad in La Jolla and UC San Diego’s Epstein Family Amphitheater. Featuring musicians from more than a dozen top U.S. orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, National Symphony, Atlanta Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra.
Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival celebrates La Jolla Week June 20, 22 and 24. Tuesday, June 20, the Orchestra heads indoors for an intimate chamber orchestra performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 at The Conrad in La Jolla. On Thursday, June 22 the new, open-air Epstein Family Amphitheater at UC San Diego hosts the Orchestra for Mozart’s beloved Marriage of Figaro and Magic Flute Overtures, Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso featuring Martin Chalifour, violin, and the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Chelsea Guo. The 35th annual Mainly Mozart Festival closes Saturday, June 24 with Beethoven’s beloved 9th Symphony. All concerts start at 7:30pm and are performed without intermission.
